 Danville company to be sole importer of new electric vehicles. Dan Sweeney News 7 5:32 p.m. EDT, October 19, 2011A local business is hoping to get in front of a trend early.The Advance Vehicle Research Center in Danville announced Wednesday that it will be the only American importer of a new electric vehicle.The vehicle is called "Change" and is made in South Korea.The cars are smaller than regular ones.But they are allowed on roads that have speed limits below 35.The cars are battery powered and can go 70 miles on a charge. "The ideal target communities are things like the gated communities where they are using golf carts,” Advanced Vehicle Research Center President Dick Dell said. “This is actually a vehicle that can be used safely on the road."Dell said colleges that want to replace their gas-powered maintenance fleets have also shown interest in the vehicles.With everything included the cars cost $24,000.If the Advance Vehicle Research Center hits a sales mark they will be able to assemble the cars in Danville.Dell says that will create new jobs.Copyright © 2011, WDBJ7-TV
